The quinceañera is the girl, not the party

[edit]

It makes no sense to say that it is a celebration. The quinceañera is the girl herself. 82.36.70.45 (talk) 19:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Even if it's grammatically incorrect to call the celebration of a quinceañera (the person) a quinceañera itself, it is commonly called that. Wikipedia doesn't dictate language rules. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:23, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can we say that it is logically, semantically and grammatically nonsense? 82.36.70.45 (talk) 19:26, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would be WP:EDITORIALising, to point that out. But isn't the lead sufficient? It already states The girl celebrating her 15th birthday is a quinceañera (Spanish pronunciation: [kinseaˈɲeɾa]; feminine form of "15-year-old"). In Latin America, the term quinceañera is reserved solely for the honoree; in English, primarily in the United States, the term is used to refer to the celebrations and honors surrounding the special occasion., making clear that quinceañera has different meanings in different cultures. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:58, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not different cultures (and I belong to both, you appear to be a Dutch guy), it’s different languages. 67.83.101.225 (talk) 15:52, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
