Emeril Live is a television cooking program that aired first on Food Network from January 6, 1997 to December 11, 2007, and then, on Fine Living and The Cooking Channel from July 7, 2008 to December 14, 2010.
Description
[edit]Hosted by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, Emeril Live featured many of the same elements as Emeril's other program, Essence of Emeril and often had a Creole theme. The program was taped in front of a live audience in New York City and featured music played by Doc Gibbs and the Emeril Live Band. In 2004, the program moved to Chelsea Market. Emeril Live began production in 1997, and won a CableACE Award for "Best Informational Show" later that year. The program featured a wide variety of cuisine from cajun to stir-fry and often featured well-known chefs as guests who cook alongside Emeril. Some of the celebrities that appeared on the program include Charlie Daniels, Patti LaBelle, Michael McDonald, Joe Perry, Sammy Hagar, Aretha Franklin, Patton Oswalt, and Jimmy Buffett.
On November 27, 2007, Food Network revealed it would halt production on the program on December 11, 2007.[2] On May 20, 2008, the Fine Living network announced that it would start airing Emeril Live, including never-before-seen episodes, beginning July 7, 2008.[3] The show ended on December 14, 2010.
Set design
[edit]On January 6, 1997, "Emeril Live" premiered. The first set featured a gray kitchen table, Viking Range appliances, and the letter "E" in the background, which can be seen behind the studio audience. From January 6, 1997 to May 10, 1998, Emeril Live featured a black stage curtain that was visible to the audience. The curtain was used to conceal the show's setting, which was located in a studio. The letter "E" on the stage curtain of Emeril Live was green from September 6, 1998 to May 6, 2002. It was purple from September 10, 2002 to May 6, 2004. The second "Emeril Live" set was used from September 5, 1999 to May 6, 2004. It featured a brown kitchen table and Viking Range appliances. The third and final "Emeril Live" set was introduced on September 7, 2004, and remained in use until the show ended on December 14, 2010. This set featured brand new Viking Range appliances, a brand new kitchen table, and picture frames made out of food. When chef Lagasse and his program moved to Chelsea Market, the set was changed, and there have been ongoing changes ever since. Emeril Lagasse made a dramatic entrance on each episode of Emeril Live. He would appear at the top of a spiral staircase and descend to the kitchen below. On September 9, 2005, Emeril Lagasse began his entrance on his show by wearing his apron and walking straight to the kitchen.
